Case Information

State court intervention pursuant to Iowa Constitution because of delayed 2020 Census data.  The state constitution’s deadline for state legislative districting is Sept. 1, with the state Supreme Court taking responsibility if redistricting is not complete by Sept. 15; Census delays meant that the data would not arrive in time to meet this deadline.

On Sept. 14, 2021, the state Supreme Court extended the deadline to Dec. 1, 2021.  On Nov. 4, 2021, the governor signed a bill enacting state legislative plans, and on Nov. 5, 2021, the state Supreme Court acknowledged the process as timely.
