Case Information

A federal court challenge to the ballot initiative seeking to amend the state constitution and redraw California’s congressional lines, alleging intended malapportionment based on drawing using mid-decade numbers, and an equal protection violation based on departure from California state constitutional precedent prohibiting mid-decade redrawing.

On Nov. 4, 2025, the court denied a preliminary injunction and dismissed the complaint (with leave to amend), finding the plaintiff without standing to proceed.  The same day, the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed the case.
