Case Information
State court challenge to the state legislative districts imposed in Johnson v. Wisconsin Elections Comm’n. Plaintiffs sought to challenge the plan as a partisan gerrymander; the state Supreme Court declined to hear that claim, focusing instead on alleged contiguity and separation of powers violations.
On Dec. 22, 2023, the state Supreme Court struck down the state legislative maps as violating state constitutional contiguity requirements. Remedial proceedings are underway. On Jan. 24, 2024, the legislature passed a remedial map that was vetoed by the Governor on Jan. 30, 2024.
