Case Information

State court challenge to the state House map, based on alleged malapportionment and insufficient consideration of town and ward boundaries.

An initial petition was filed directly to the state Supreme Court. On May 17, 2022, the state Supreme Court denied original jurisdiction, without prejudice to plaintiffs.

Plaintiffs then sought relief in trial court.  On Apr. 8, 2024, the trial court denied summary judgment to the plaintiffs and granted summary judgment to the state, rejecting the challenges.

On June 4, 2025, on appeal, the state Supreme Court affirmed the trial court.  The court determined that when it was not possible to comply strictly with every state constitutional requirement, the choice among roughly similar noncompliant plans is within the legislature’s discretion.
