Case Information

State court intervention pursuant to Iowa Constitution because of delayed 2020 Census data. Article III, section 35 of the Iowa Constitution provides a deadline of September 1 to complete a nonpartisan reapportionment of the state’s legislative districts. If the reapportionment does not become law prior to September 15, the State Supreme Court must cause the state to be reapportioned prior to December 31 of that year.

Congressional and legislative plans were signed into law on Nov. 4, 2021, ending this action.
