Thomas v. Beals

Last Updated Aug 1, 2022
Case No. 3:22-cv-00427 (E.D. Va.)
Cycle 2020

Case Information

A federal court challenge to Virginia’s state House districts, acknowledging that new lines had been drawn for use in 2023, but claiming injury based on the holding of 2021 state House elections under last cycle’s unconstitutionally malapportioned map.

The plaintiff asked the court to order new state House elections in 2022 under the new plan.  On Aug. 1, 2022, the court dismissed the case, on standing grounds and for want of an available remedy.
