Case Information

A taxpayer action in state court to void two contracts in which the legislative leadership would use public funds to hire private attorneys (rather than using the state Dept. of Justice) in anticipation of expected redistricting lawsuits.

On Apr. 29, 2021, the state trial court granted summary judgment to the taxpayers and voided the contracts.  On Jan. 27, 2022, on appeal, the Wisconsin Supreme Court reversed, finding the contracts permissible under state law.
