Case Information
A state court challenge to the congressional and legislative maps, based on the anticipated failure of the legislature to draw valid lines, and anticipated subsequent malapportionment.
On Mar. 22, 2021, the state Supreme Court granted the request to appoint a special redistricting panel, but then stayed proceedings to give the legislature an opportunity to pass a valid plan.
On Jun. 30, 2021, the state Supreme Court lifted the stay in order to appoint judges to the redistricting panel and allocate authority to the panel to manage the redistricting process.
On Feb. 15, 2022, after the Minnesota Legislature failed to draw maps by its statutory deadline, the special redistricting panel adopted congressional and state legislative redistricting plans.
