Case Information

Federal court challenge to Michigan’s new congressional districts, alleging that the districts are unlawfully malapportioned, and that the splitting of counties and communities of interest violates both state and federal constitutions.

On Mar. 4, 2022, the court dismissed the count unrelated to equal population.  On Apr. 1, 2022, the court denied a motion for a preliminary injunction on the equal population claim.

On Jul. 28, 2022, plaintiffs appealed that denial of the preliminary injunction to the U.S. Supreme Court.  On Nov. 10, 2022, the Supreme Court summarily dismissed the appeal as moot, and on Jan. 17, 2023, the parties stipulated to a voluntary dismissal.
