Case Information

A state challenge to an at-large county election, under Washington State’s state voting rights act; the Washington Voting Rights Act was itself challenged at the U.S. Supreme Court based on alleged racial discrimination.

On Sep. 13, 2021, the trial court ordered a single-district remedial plan under the WVRA; in response, intervenor-defendants challenged the constitutionality of the WVRA.  On Jan. 3, 2022, the trial court denied the intervenors’ motion for judgment on the pleadings, and the substantive merits of the case settled on May 9, 2022.

On June 15, 2023, the state supreme court affirmed the constitutionality of the WVRA.
