Case Information

A federal court challenge to Legislative District 15 (Yakima Valley), alleging vote dilution and intentional racial discrimination in violation of the federal Voting Rights Act.

On Aug. 10, 2023, the court struck down the district, holding that it cracked Latino voters in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act; on Mar. 15, 2024, the court ordered the implementation of a remedial plan.

The state accepted the remedy, but intervenors appealed; on Aug. 27, 2025, the federal appellate court affirmed the trial court, rejecting the intervenors’ assertion that the remedial district was impermissibly drawn predominantly based on race.
