Case Information

A federal court challenge to Legislative District 15 (Yakima Valley), alleging the unjustified predominant use of race in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Written Closing Argument was filed concurrently in both Soto Palmer v. Hobbs, No. 3:22-cv-5035, and Garcia v. Hobbs, No. 3:22-cv-5152.

In light of the court’s decision in Soto Palmer, the Court DISMISSED the Plaintiff’s claim as moot. The Court found that plaintiff’s challenge to the constitutionality of LD 15 is moot given the Soto Palmer court’s finding that LD 15 violates § 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

An appeal to the USCA, 9th Circuit has been filed
