Case Information

A federal court challenge to Legislative District 15 (Yakima Valley), alleging vote dilution and intentional racial discrimination in violation of the federal Voting Rights Act.

On Aug. 10, 2023, the court struck down the district, holding that it cracked Latino voters in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.  Intervenor voters have appealed the decision to the 9th Circuit, and have also petitioned the Supreme Court for certiorari before judgment.

Meanwhile, remedial proceedings have continued in the trial court, with a remedial hearing pending.
