Case Information

A federal court challenge to Legislative District 15 (Yakima Valley), alleging vote dilution and intentional racial discrimination in violation of the federal Voting Rights Act.

On Aug. 10, 2023, the court struck down the state’s maps, holding that it cracked Latino voters in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

Written Closing Argument was filed concurrently in both Soto Palmer v. Hobbs, No. 3:22-cv-05035, and Garcia v. Hobbs, No. 3:22-cv-5152.

On Sep. 8, 2023, Defendant’s filed an appeal to the Ninth Circuit.
