Order dismissing case as moot
Case Information
Federal court challenge to Legislative District 15 (Yakima Valley), alleging the unjustified predominant use of race in violation of the Constitution.
In light of the decision in Soto Palmer v. Hobbs finding a VRA violation of LD15, the court dismissed the claim as moot on Sept. 8, 2023. On Feb. 20, 2024, the Supreme Court vacated that order, instructing the trial court to issue a judgment suitable for appeal.
On Mar. 25, 2024, the trial court reiterated its dismissal of the claim as moot; that decision has been appealed, with briefing complete but further proceedings stayed pending the resolution of Soto Palmer v. Hobbs.
