Case Information

Federal lawsuit challenging congressional districts as a violation of ยง 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The complaint alleges that “[f]aced with Georgia’s changing demographics, the General Assembly has ensured that the growth of the state’s Black population will not translate to increased political influence at the federal level.”

Plaintiffs filed a motion for a preliminary injunction on Jan. 12, 2022 and Georgia moved to the dismiss the lawsuit on Jan. 14, 2022. The Court denied the motion to dismiss on Jan. 28, 2022 and denied the motion for preliminary injunction on Feb. 28, 2022. By denying the preliminary injunction the Court allowed the new maps to be used for the 2022 election cycle.
